What Does “Bringing It” Mean?
After 20 years in this business, I have a pretty good idea of what to tell people when they ask “What does it take to succeed as an entrepreneur?” You might have figured this out already from the title, but the answer is pretty simple: you have to be prepared and willing to bring it! Bring what? All your energy, intelligence, passion, driving force, knowledge, and ability to learn! At the end of it, you’ll be a stellar entrepreneur.
An entrepreneur is someone who is willing to take responsibility to get the result.
Why Doesn’t Everyone Do It?
We go through this in the initial interview and also in the business presentation that people go through before they join our business. Here’s the hard truth:
So many people are unprepared to put in the necessary effort when they become an entrepreneur. Maybe they’ve worked hard for other companies in the past, but they don’t raise their game when they start working for themselves.
Rachel had an interesting experience when she first started in sales. Her boss was surprised because she was making more sales than any of her colleagues, even though she was brand-new. It turned out that she was the ONLY one who was actually following all the instructions to the letter…and it worked! She put in the effort handing out flyers and posting signs around town. She didn’t wait for money to fall into her lap.
When we first started out in this business, Shane wanted a beautiful new car, Rachel wanted some shiny new Manolo Blahniks 😊 Of course, we’ve matured and learned that there are things more important than that (family, charity, etc.) but these things were certainly one of the driving factors when we first made it a goal to start making more money. But it wasn’t just our desire for these things that drove us. It had to be deeper than that in order for us to truly give our all in our effort to succeed.
We all want things to be easy.
We are all afraid to fail (and sometimes afraid to succeed!)
Some of us are hesitant or afraid to bring it.
But it’s SO WORTH IT! We wish you the best of luck as you strike out and start your own business. No matter how scary it is, if you are willing, you can make it happen! We assure you, it gets easier over time!
