Welcome to another episode of the Industry Insider with Shane and Rachel Krider! Today we’ll be discussing a few do’s and don’t when it comes to starting a successful business, as well as the difference between force and velocity and what that means for us as entrepreneurs.
Desperation is not a good way to get business and make sales. It’s not a good way to get big results. You want to attract people with your confidence, not steer them away from you with your desperation.
Most of us are stuck in a cycle of one thing after the next, and we never really get a big-picture perspective of things. We’re just stuck in the day to day living, never reaching higher than that, never looking past the life we are living right now.
I (Shane) remember when I first started out as an entrepreneur and my son was only 3 years old. Now, 21 years later, he is getting into the business world himself! As a self-made multi-millionaire, I’m so glad that I’m here to offer him guidance and help him get on the right track with his plans and strategies for starting his own business. Here are some things I have tried to pass on to my son as well as all the wonderful people we meet in this business.
Don’t be average
Recently, when speaking with my son, I noticed that he used the word “realistically” when describing his plans for his new business. So that got me thinking: realistic is my least favorite word when it comes to business. There’s nothing “realistic” about creating significant success. Realistic is just another word for average, which doesn’t cut it! So don’t use the word “realistically” when you’re starting a business. Don’t be too realistic or too safe. Instead, be confident.
Don’t avoid the pressure
Avoiding stress is not always a good thing. You don’t grow without pressure and stress. There’s chronic stress, which is by all accounts bad, but situational stress is good. That’s the type of stress that helps you “learn how to swim,” and once you get that new skill, the stress is over and you feel like you’re on top of the world. There are different types of stress, so go after the right one.
With no pressure and stress, you may not have the drive you need to really make sales and succeed. My strategy is geared toward making people into entrepreneurs come hell or high water, and for that to really happen, you need to put a little bit of pressure on yourself!
Don’t put the wrong things first
Whatever you put first is what you’re going to achieve, and there’s no two ways about it. If you put becoming an entrepreneur first, then that’s the goal. If that’s your main goal, you shouldn’t wait, slow down, and do other stuff before you pursue your real goal. Sometimes you need to take a breath and gain perspective, but you don’t need to take days, weeks, months, which turns into years, which turns into never.
Get started with velocity!
Get your business started. And not just started, but succeeding and making money for you! Don’t start your business and then wait around for the sales to come in. Make it happen right away!
This leads us to force and velocity. You can throw a bullet with as much force you can, but it’s not causing a lot of damage. However, when it’s shot out of a gun (therefore has more velocity!), it will create a hell of an impact.
In other words, with velocity, you don’t need force. So. get out there and SKYROCKET your business into success!
